Vintage 1992 Gold-Plated Seiko Day-Date withMint Dial, Orig Bracelet, 5Y23 Mvmt, Runs

  

This vintage 1992 Seiko day-date has a pristine champagne dial. The beautifully cut gold-plated case is in wonderful condition showing minor wear with no signs of oxidation. The center of the case back is personalized ROBERT L.

STEEL BACK, 5Y23-8119 RO" and "209247. The crystal is in excellent condition. While I normally show pictures of the movements of watches that I put up for sale given that the 5Y23 movement is running beautifully I'd prefer not to open the back. The hacking movement with quickset day and date feature runs strong keeping accurate time with both the day and date wheels rolling over automatically as they should. The quickset date function works flawlessly by pulling out the crown to the first position and then turning it clockwise until the desired date has been reached.

The quickset day function works in precisely the same manner with the exception of turning the crown counterclockwise. Considering that I do not know when the battery was last changed nor if the movement has ever been serviced, a complete overhaul is recommended. This watch measures approximately 33 mm excluding the crown, approximately 34 mm including the crown and approximately 18 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the fixed bezel, is approximately 6 mm. The crystal adds no measurable thickness.

This watch comes on its original gold-plated Seiko band with affixed "JR" (James River) emblem. The band fits my approximate 6.5 inch wrist perfectly with room to spare. I'd guestimate that it would comfortably accommodate up to a 7 inch wrist.

Given that it's unknown when the battery was last changed or if the movement has ever been serviced, a complete overhaul is recommended. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time.
